Transcript Help
I’ve been super happy with this free site: http://www.donnayoung.org/forms/planners/hs-transcript.htm for a basic transcript.
I tend to like to keep track of mostly EVERYTHING during the high school years:

Book Title & Author of every (or as nearly as possible) book they’ve read, even if just for fun.

Volunteer hours (even just helping a friend of the family clean or move)

Any leadership roles they’ve taken on or assisted with (helped decide the activity for youth group)

Awards they’ve received (their poem published from submission to ACPL, church awards, etc.)

Outside of school education (dog training class, Life Defenders Camp, etc.)

Then, once a year, in whatever format I’ve chosen from Donna Young, I make or update the transcript with all the above information.
Then, I make 2 transcripts. The one-page just-the-facts transcript is what state schools (IU, Purdue) want. The 6 page all the information transcript is for small, private colleges.
– The state schools won’t even look at a long transcript. They have tons to go through and it’s all a numbers game. The kids set themselves apart through test scores, entrance essay, and application.
– The smaller schools don’t get as many applicants and are looking for students who jump off the page at them. An in-depth look at the student’s education, often can do that.
Also, the majority of scholarship money comes from the school itself.
So I make a third (or fourth) transcript. This is for the child’s #1 (& #2?) schools. I look at the mission statement and the university catalog of classes. I re-describe several of the key class descriptions using vocabulary from the catalog (particularly in the chosen major of my student). I don’t lie in any way, but I frame my student to look like (be as close an image reflection as honesty allows) the school & chosen major. So, I emphasize the parts of my student that reflect the image of the school.
