Odyssey Reading
My name is Kate MacDonald and I tutor students with dyslexia out of my home. I am a homeschool graduate and began tutoring struggling readers as a business in 2015. I tutor students of all ages, from 2nd grade through high school and beyond. References are available upon request.
I became interested in helping dyslexic students because my younger brother struggled with learning to read for many years. I helped my mom with his instruction when she would get frustrated. In 2013 he was finally diagnosed with dyslexia. I was eager to continue to help. I’ve completed my brother’s therapy as a proficient reader and found it’s a joy for me to open up the world of books to struggling readers.
I now offer private one-on-one instruction with local struggling readers.
As a base I use the Wilson Reading System with a mixture of right-brained and Orton-Gillingham tactics. I am in the process of obtaining certification in Orton-Gillingham including courses through the University of London which gives me a unique skill set to assist your student. I presently charge $25.00 per session. It is essential for learning, especially with dyslexia, that students have consistency, so I suggest three to four lessons per week and have a minimum requirement of two lessons per week.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions, or call me if I can help you in any way. As a student I loved reading, and I would love to assist you in opening up the world of reading to your student.”
